Hey there, thank you for visiting sounds about riso 4.0 !

sounds about riso started as a small festival in 2019, featuring workshops and a variety risograph works for sale by artists, printmakers & publishers. Throughout the pandemic, sounds about riso has offered an online event platform to stay engaged and reach out to the larger creative riso community.

The sounds about riso team has come together this year to showcase over 200 works and over 180 artists, along with low-cost collaborative workshops (RSVP to our programming here! or check out the RisoTV!).

In addition, we also launched an open call for a mentorship program in hopes of supporting students and recent graduates new to the risograph printing process.

The long pandemic has made it very difficult for students and emerging creatives to gain access to affordable printing, a creative community, and hands-on learning experiences. Through sounds about riso, we hope to create a platform for more emerging artists and aspiring zinemakers to (re-)discover the joy of independent publishing.

sounds about riso is run by a team of passionate individuals who volunteer their time and labor to this project. We are invested in creating an equitable model where both participants and organizers are mutually benefited and supported.

About the Team:

🌼LUCKY RISOGRAPH is a POC-owned print, design studio, and publisher based in DUMBO, NY. Primarily working through the medium of risograph printing, we create a wide variety of printed matter ranging from postcards to art books. Since our establishment in 2018, we have continued to incorporate risograph’s eco-conscious and affordable nature into our everyday practice, working with diverse artist communities. In addition, we also offer in-person and virtual workshops, DIY lessons, and open studio hours.

🌼ZINE HUG is a risograph micropress that publishes comics, zines, and art books. Our goal is to foster community and collaboration and to make accessible works of art. We are currently very excited about using the risograph printer as a medium for animated works. Zine Hug is based in Seattle, WA, but you just may spot us lurking in NYC.

🌼HYPERLINK PRESS is a zine/curatorial collective that seeks to distribute work by artists that navigate in-between spaces of the internet, queer communities, and diaspora experiences. Their mission is to uplift marginalized and underrepresented experiences, identities, and histories in the art gallery and technology field. Hyperlink Press reminisces about the early 2000s that showed us exciting alternatives to traditional forms of community building for a more equitable world.

🌼RITU GHIYA is an artist who works as a designer and web developer. Her digital works involve retrieving and archiving personal and collective ephemera – in an attempt to channel the serendipity of the offline world. She previously designed the inaugural Printed Matter Virtual Art Book Fair website.

🌼SOCIAL SPECIES is a design studio and a small print collective focusing on expressions of play. We believe that play has always been an accessible way of learning culture and identity. Drawing inspiration from this, we want to create new ways of play for the present and further develop for the future.
